It is a common practice in medicine to share war-stories with other residents/doctors. Our tales of woe are often rooted in our surgical rotations, since (some) surgeons are notorious for their malignant behavior. My co-resident shared this delight with me yesterday:
As a third year med student, she was required to rotate through vascular surgery. The surgeons on that service were particularly persnickety and/or volatile. One day, she, the attending surgeon, and the fellow (the next step up from resident) were all deep into surgery of some sort on a male patient.
The fellow had made more than a few errors during the course of the surgery, and after one close call, the surgeon stops and bellows at the fellow (...poet and didn't even know it), "Are you sleeping with this patient's wife?"
Shocked silence.
"I said, ARE YOU SLEEPING WITH THIS MAN'S WIFE."
"Um, no."
"Then WHY are you trying to KILL him!?! Get OUT of my OR."
Yes, sir.

I miss Grey's! I hate working on Thursdays...
That's a VERY interesting story! (Keep it for your memoir someday) ;)
Have a super weekend!
Kate, Found your blog from Mary's...you lead a very interesting life! Love to see you are living your dream as a doc, a wife and a mom! Good for you! I'm a full-time therapist and a mom of 2. Don't know any old room-mates or college friends who work full time and are mom's as well! Yes, it is a juggling act! Thanks for sharing. Love your stories.
